What happens when parties draw out negotiations for the release of hostages in exchange for prisoners in waves of exchange over days and put a pause in a war?

Almost anything is possible and that is what happened on Saturday in expectation of the second wave of exchanges between Hamas and Israel.

Hamas has a three to one advantage in this exchange if all stays on track - 150 Palestinian prisoners for 50 hostages taken by Hamas.

On Saturday, Hamas alleged that Israel was breaking its word on the negotiations.

    Israel denied it.

Hamas decided to delay the release of the second hostage wave until Israel agreed to send aid to northern Gaza, according to Reuters.

Hamas’ al-Qassam Brigades said that the second round of hostage releases would be delayed if Israel does not adhere to the agreed terms regarding the release of the Palestinian prisoners.

An IDF spokesperson told French television channel BFM that Israel has respected the original agreement.

The Hamas representative in Lebanon alleged that Israel did not adhere to the original agreement terms.

This exchange is the second wave in what is reported to be the release of 150 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli custody. In exchange, Hamas promised to release a total of 50 hostages back to Israel.

As of now, the release is back on, but this is now setting a precedent that this negotiation may have daily snarls in the execution of this deal.
