The newly appointed Chief of General Staff, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi is embarking on the road of far-reaching changes for the IDF, designed to better answer the complex and often asymmetric threat environment that Israel is currently facing. The first published manifestation of this endeavor is the creation of a pilot “multi-dimensional” combat unit comprising of elements from infantry, combat engineers, anti-tank forces, and artillery, as well as air force and field intelligence.

The decision to create the new unit is one of five initiatives that are now being undertaken by the IDF to better prepare it for the modern battlefield. The other four include additional resources for materiel acquisition for front line troops such as optic sights for all infantry rifles, the creation of an “operational internet” that will connect all combat and intelligence forces acting in a given theater of operations, setting up a combined command for military intelligence and the air force in order to more quickly identify high-priority targets, and finally setting up a new staff unit that will take on the topics of “multi-branch warfare and new combat technologies”.

Israel does not have enough troop strength without contributions from its female officers and enlisted.

I agree with you if your point is that front line infantry and special forces combat roles should be reserved for only those who meet the highly robust and non-watered-down physical training requirements. This usually excludes females from these roles, in fact, only 4% of women are in combat roles. If Israel is allowing women into front line and special forces combat roles by lowering the physical standards, then that is a recipe for resentment and disaster.

Women who meet the same in-role standards as men, be it academic or physical, are excellent in all military roles. If you can show me that they have made bad calls which prolonged combat or got Israelis killed by being too soft on the enemy, please cite examples.
