Islamic Jihad in Gaza is trying to mitigate the bitter taste of defeat by unveiling a new heavy missile

In the aftermath of the successful Israeli action against the leader of the Islamic Jihad in Gaza Abu Al-Ata and the consequent exchange of fire between the two parties, Islamic Jihad revealed that during this round of fighting it had used for the first time its Iranian-inspired, heavy short-range rocket, the “Burkan”.
According to Israeli sources, this rocket carries a warhead of 300 to 400 Kg (660 to 880 lbs) of high explosives and has a range of up to five kilometers (3 miles). The one Burkan that was fired did not threaten any built-up areas and so was let through by the Iron Dome missile defense system. Upon impact, it created a very large crater near the Israeli village in the so called “Gaza envelope”.
The IDF commander in the area met with the residents and informed them that Israel is well aware of this particular rocket as it had already seen action in Syria and in Iraq and that it does not pose any unforeseen threats to them or their property.
