The Israeli Defense Force released information today on recent special operations ground force activity in southern Lebanon. The press release is below:
More than 700 special operations in which IDF forces spent more than 200 nights in enemy territory in southern Lebanon.
Some of the promotions even lasted 2-3 consecutive days of staying in southern Lebanon.
Many special units of the IDF engaged in these operations.
As part of the operations, the forces entered the Hezbollah tunnels, destroyed weapons in the territory itself, captured and placed explosives, and also removed weapons and intelligence documents to Israeli territory.
In two of the operations over the past few months, our forces were injured – one as a result of exploding traps of our forces, and one as a result of the explosion of an old bomb that was left in the field. Hezbollah did not recognize these operations and there were no encounters or battles with terrorists at all.
The operations were carried out at a distance of up to 2-3 km from the border with Israel in the nearest strip of villages.
A number of sample test cases:
1. Lavona area (tangled open area) – The IDF located an underground bunker at the site that leads to a tunnel into which the fighters entered. This is the deployment area of 3 Radwan battalions. The units located there living rooms inside the underground and a rav amlah.
2. Ayta ash Shab area : Dozens of underground shafts were destroyed in the area in the various operations. Several rocket launchers, more than 10 ammunition depots were destroyed. Tunnels 20-25 meters deep were found there, which go into the mountain and reach as far as the village of Ayta ash Shab itself.
3. The village of Meiss El Jabal – an operation was conducted there for several nights to locate an underground route. The fighters also entered the houses of the village itself. They found there an ammunition depot for a whole company of Radvan, which is intended for preparations for the occupation of territory in the Galilee. A 12-meter-deep shaft with an approach tunnel that reaches up to a distance of 30 meters from the border with Israel.
4. Kfarkela (opposite Matula) – an underground tunnel was located, the shaft of which exits from a children’s room inside a building. It took a long time for the forces to locate the tunnel under the children’s bed. Inside the tunnel – weapons for an entire company of Radwan. In two houses in the village, large explosives were found a few meters away from the fence – intended to blow up and breach the wall in a surprise attack. In the tunnel, bags and equipment were located for the rapid arrival and equipping of Radwan forces.
The IDF says that these dozens of special operations were the preparation for the ground maneuver that began tonight, and its goal is to reach all those areas – in a much wider way – and to destroy the infrastructure that remains there in a visible way. Among other things, to seal the underground tunnels that could not be sealed as part of a secret and small operation.
Since the beginning of the war, IDF troops have carried out dozens of targeted operations near the border in southern Lebanon to dismantle Hezbollah combat compounds and weapons
Since the beginning of the war, the IDF has conducted dozens of targeted operations in areas near the border in southern Lebanon in order to dismantle Hezbollah’s terrorist capabilities and infrastructure that pose a threat to Israeli civilian communities in northern Israel.
Under the direction of the Northern Command and based on precise intelligence from the Intelligence Directorate (J2), IDF troops have conducted targeted operations against Hezbollah’s combat compounds in southern Lebanon. These operations were conducted in order to dismantle the military capabilities of Hezbollah’s Radwan Forces and prevent it from carrying out its October 7th-style ‘Conquer the Galilee’ plan for an invasion into northern Israel.
The soldiers identified and breached underground access points near the border area, exposed extensive weapon caches, assembly areas for terrorist operative operations, and more. During these operations, the troops also collected valuable intelligence and methodically dismantled the weapons and compounds, including underground infrastructure and advanced weaponry of Iranian origin.
The troops also uncovered and destroyed underground infrastructure, struck thousands of targets and hundreds of weapons storage facilities, tons of explosives, and hundreds of living areas for operatives, command centers and more. Some of the weapons were recovered and taken by the soldiers back into Israeli territory.
The IDF continues to operate to degrade Hezbollah’s capabilities and infrastructure, and push Hezbollah away from the border area in order to enable the residents of the north to return to their homes in safety.
