Control of the highest peak in the Levant has changed hands many times during the Arab-Israeli wars in the 20th century.
But, Mount Hermon has a history tens of thousands of years old, as even Greek and Roman temples, as well as evidence of other civilizations, have been found there.
The entire Hermon Range is in Israeli hands, both from the (formerly) Syrian side and the (formerly) Lebanese side!, report regional journalists after the fall of the Assad regime in Syria last week.
“The peaks of Mount Hermon in Syria have returned to Israeli control in a moving historical moment,” declared Israeli Defense Minister Katz.
“Netanyahu and I visited the Golan Heights and saw the peaks of the Syrian Mount Hermon, which returned to our control after 51 years.
“I ordered the army to prepare to remain on the summit of Mount Hermon throughout the winter.”
Israel has captured the peak of Mount Hermon, at an altitude of 2,815 meters (9,236 feet) and just 45 km (28 miles) from Damascus. This move is part of Israel’s strategy to strengthen its presence on the Syrian border, particularly following the fall of Assad’s regime. The occupation of Mount Hermon complements Israel’s control over the Golan Heights, a strategic area that Israel formally annexed in 1981, despite not being internationally recognized as Israeli territory. The United Nations has its highest outpost at the peak of the mountain, affectionately nicknamed ‘Hotel Hermon’.
There are many Biblical references to the peak, with the non-canonical Book of Enoch describing how the fallen angels, the Nephilim who are mentioned in the Book of Genesis, landed there and mated with human women.
Many theories abound as to the agendas behind those seeking control of the mountain, with some describing possible secret technology to be found there, or some type of ancient power, in addition to being the high ground in a region permeated by war for generations.

Absolutely well done, IDF. You have many supporters in Australia, even though our government has taken the side of the barbarians. They won’t be here long.
