Following delays and cancellations, a successful test launch against a simulated target of the third generation Arrow (Hebrew: Hetz) anti-ballistic missile (ABM) system was completed today. The interceptor missile was launched from a site in Israel at 06:44 Israel time and successfully intercepted its target. The test was conducted by the main system developer, Israel Aircraft Industries with participation from the American Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the Israeli Air Force. Simulated target was detected by the Arrow system radar, which then transferred the data to the fire management and control system that commanded the launch of the interceptor missile leading to the target destruction.

The Arrow ABM system is designed to provide Israel with an adequate answer to the treat of conventionally and nuclear armed Iranian ballistic missiles by intercepting and destroying them above the earth’s atmosphere and before they enter the terminal stage of the trajectory.
