Having finished in the top ten in the Bloomberg Innovation Index, Israel repeats the feat rounding out the top ten healthiest nations according to the Healthiest Country Index just published by the same media outlet. This result is further testament to Israel’s firm place in the so-called “first world”. In fact, Israel is close to the top tier of that category according to many metrics. Contributing factors to Israel’s high-place finish (though it was one place lower than last year’s) is long life expectancy, healthy Mediterranean diet, and an excellent healthcare system.

The United States, coming in at Number 35, demonstrates the growing inequality between Americans who can afford healthy food and excellent healthcare and those who cannot. On the North American continent as a whole, Canada came in first at Number 16 worldwide, and Mexico at Number 53. This means that as far as healthcare is concerned, Canada is in the same league with Israel, while the US languishes in the Mexican division.
