Upgraded Version Of David’s Sling Anti-Missile System Completes A Successful Round Of Testing

Development of the next version of the medium-range anti-missile system David’s Sling reaches an important milestone with a successful test

David’s Sling is a jointly developed weapons system designed to provide theater protection against
tactical ballistic missiles, medium -to long-range rockets and cruise missiles, fired at ranges from 40 km (24.85 miles) to 300 km (186.41 miles). In this role, it provides a layer of defense between Iron Dome, which defends against short range rockets, and the Arrow, which provides protection against long-range ballistic missiles.

The systems’ contractors are the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the American Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and it is jointly developed and manufactured by US-based Raytheon and Israel-based Rafael. The test was conducted by Rafael with participation by Raytheon and in the presence of Israeli and American officials. The test was designed to verify certain new capabilities that are being developed for the next version of the already operational David’s Sling anti-missile defense system and it was reported that all test objectives were successfully met.
