Bibi Visits Ukraine, May Help Mediate Donbass

Jews of Galicia (western Ukraine), 1821

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Kyiv for a two day visit on the 18th of August. The nationalist PM was in search of Jewish votes for the upcoming national election.

Netanyahu’s working visit to Ukraine is the first by an Israeli prime minister since he traveled to the country during his first term in March 1999, reported The Kyiv Post.

He is also the first foreign leader to visit Kiev since President Volodymyr Zelensky, a former actor with no previous political experience, was elected in April.

In Kiev, Netanyahu will meet with Zelensky and Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, both of whom are Jewish. Ukraine is currently the only country besides Israel where both the president and the prime minister are Jewish, reported The Kyiv Post.

News reports declared Netanyahu may also attempt to mediate the simmering war in the Donbass region of East Ukraine. The Israeli PM has held a neutral stance regarding the conflict from the beginning.
