Yesterday, the Israeli spacecraft Beresheet executed a maximum thrust burn of its maneuvering rockets, burning a total of 55 Kg (125 lbs) of fuel over 271 seconds. This slowed the spacecraft down and degraded the apogee of its orbit from over 10,000 Km (6,200 miles) to 550 Km (340 miles) above the moon surface. The new orbit is nearly circular, with the perigee only 100 Km (62 miles) lower than the apogee. The next maneuver will be landing on the moon’s surface and it is scheduled for Thursday of this week.
