The first three hostages released, Romi Gonen, Emily Damari and Doron Steinbrecher indicated they held, at least in part, in UN run refugee camps during their captivity according to Israeli Channel 13. No additional details have been released, likely due to the sensitivity of the ongoing release of other living hostages, the next scheduled for this coming Sunday. This revelation further sheds light on the relationship between the terrorist organization Hamas and the UN Relief and Works Agency, UNRWA that has come under fire over the fifteen-month conflict, as well as other supposed neutral actors like the Red Crecent, World Central Kitchen, and Al Jazeera.

On October 7th, Israel identified at least 19 employees of UNRWA who participated in the terrorist attack against Israel. A UN probe admitted that nine were involved and those employees were terminated. First, how is it possible to be a fourth or fifth generation refugee? At some point, living in a five-story luxury condo building does not qualify you as a refugee. With UNRWA embedded for Gazans for 75 years, they were first infiltrated by the PLO and later by Hamas. The corruption is at every level of the UN organization.
The same goes for organizations like the Red Crecent, World Central Kitchen (WCK) and Al Jazeera. Sure, there are some that are genuinely there to help, but no organization can function in Gaza without Hamas. During the opening attack on the Erez Crossing, video evidence proves Red Crecent ambulances worked in coordination with Hamas terrorist to evacuate wounded terrorists during the initial fighting. While IAF airstrikes mistakenly killed WCK aid workers in one attack, another 3 were killed in a follow up attack, including one who was identified as a Hamas terrorist who was part of the October 7th attack. Whether Al Jazeera was complicit or victims, terrorists have used their media centers and equipment to communicate, leading to IDF attacks. There are no organizations in Gaza that operate without the consent of Hamas.
Hospitals, schools and mosques all have played a part in Hamas’ ongoing propaganda ruse known by Israelis as “Pallywood”. Hamas has become experts in fooling Western press with fake funeral processions that have occasionally been interrupted by the “dead” falling from the stretcher only to hop back on and continue with the charade. These events have been caught on video and reporters continue to report the so-called tragedies. Early in this current conflict, an apparent airstrike was reported to have killed 500 civilians near a Gaza hospital only moments after an explosion. It turned out that an errant Hamas rocket misfired and hit the parking lot but only killed a few people. Weeks passed before a video surfaced that proved it was not the IDF, yet for months, foreign press repeated this lie. More recently, the IDF conducted a raid on Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza. Two hundred and forty Hamas operatives were arrest, many of whom were posing as hospital staff, doctors and patients. The more civilian deaths, the more Hamas wins the propaganda war.
Though the conflict is winding down, the final outcome is yet to be determined. Israel has inflicted enormous damage to Hamas infrastructure and future warmaking capabilities. It will take years just to rebuild their tunnels and rocket manufacturing, assuming Iran is able to fund them. Hamas for their part is declaring victory for having survived in some fashion, putting on a brave face as they crawl out of their holes, remove their costumes and don their uniforms again, but everyone in Gaza knows how cowardly they have acted. What is clear without question is we cannot without any doubt, no longer trust any international organizations or NGO that has operated in Gaza. They are all infiltrated and in bed with Hamas. It will take an outside force that can break the stronghold of Hamas.
Schools will need to be rebuilt with curricula that embrace liberty and peace. Government institutions will need to freed of institutional corruption. Courts will have to institute a system of laws that assume the accused innocent, whether they belong to Hamas or not. We do not need them to be a Western democracy. We tried to cram democracy down the throats of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and other states that not only failed, but led to disintegration of the states themselves. There are other models that work, perhaps the United Arab Emirates model. President Trump in the midst of signing executive orders was asked about Gaza, he wondered aloud about the possibilities give the location along the Mediterranean. Could a solution be marrying the steady hand of the United States, along with the Arab perspective and wealth of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, that might lead to a lasting peaceful coexistence with Israel? What is clear is the last 75 years attempts have been a miserable failure, and it is time to try something new.
