As of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, voter turnout in Israel’s parliamentary elections had reached 16.68% or 1.2 million voters, the highest mid-morning figure since 1981, Central Elections Committee Acting Director-General Dean Livne said at a press conference. That represented an increase of 0.78 percentage points over the corresponding figure in the 2022 elections, JNS reported.
By noon the same day, 31.5% of Israel’s voters, or 2.3m, had cast their ballots, up from 28.4% at the same time in 2022. According to a report by Ynet, this is the highest midday voter turnout since 1977. In addition to civilians, soldiers also poured to the polling stations across Israel. As of 10am, 30% of the IDF personnel had voted, up from 25.7% in 2022 elections.
The polls close at 10 pm. As of now, the final polls, prior to the pre-election black out, had Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party pulling ahead of Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud, with Naftali Bennett’s Together party taking third spot. Neither Netanyahu’s bloc nor the opposition were forecasted to achieve a majority of 61 seats, according to Israel National News. We shall bring you the results of the election as they are released, overnight and during the following days. Coalition negotiations are expected to be a long drawn out process.
