A Call For Unity From Ashkelon

Dear citizens, today I am writing to you to share important thoughts and a call for unification.

We are the people of Israel, and now our only goal is to unite. We are so diverse: secular and religious, Ashkenazi and Sephardi, newcomers and old-timers, Arabs and Jews. But let’s not forget that we are united by common ideals and the dream of building an ideal society in our native country.

Seventy-five years ago we were able to create a democratic state on this little piece of land. Since its inception, we have to defend our existence. Unfortunately, over time, some of us, especially the younger generation, have forgotten about our vulnerability. The events of recent days, including the Black Saturday on October 7, have reminded us that the world cannot be bought with money, and territorial concessions will not bring us security. We need decisive action to save our peace. Golda Meir’s forgotten words become relevant again: “If you want peace, prepare for war.” Let’s stop blaming the government for what happened. We are all responsible for our safety. We have weakened our Country by holding numerous demonstrations in the struggle for democracy. What kind of democracy can exist when we are constantly under threat? How can we think about democracy when a third of our compatriots live in poverty?

We sought peace despite the constant terrorist acts of radical Islamists. No matter what, we believed in a peace treaty with an insidious enemy who wants only our death. Many of us thought that it was possible to reach an agreement with terrorists through concessions. For example, the Oslo agreement between Rabin and Arafat (Treaty establishing a Palestinian state). I remind you that, Yasser Arafat surprised everyone by refusing to sign this agreement. Despite this, Israel armed Fatah, but instead of peace they got an intifada.

Nevertheless, Israel continues its policy of disengagement. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon decided to unilaterally disengage. The withdrawal of all Jewish units of the Israel Defense Forces from the Gaza Strip, as well as the withdrawal of a number of settlements from Samaria, is envisaged.

Approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on June 6, 2004, approved by the Knesset on October 26, 2004 and implemented from August 15 to September 23, 2005, on August 22, 2005, all residents of Jewish settlements left the Gaza Strip.

On September 12, 2005, the last Israeli soldier left Gaza. The “unilateral disengagement” ended on September 23, 2005 with the liquidation of the Dotan military camp near Jenin. As a result, 21 Jewish settlements were withdrawn from the Gaza Strip and 4 from Samaria.

After the death of Yasser Arafat, as a result of elections in the Palestinian Authority, the terrorist group Hamas came to power.

Between 2001 and early 2011, according to Avigdor Lieberman, “terrorists fired more than 11 thousand rockets and mines from the Gaza Strip into cities in southern Israel.” According to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, “the cost of protecting civilians from terrorist missiles amounts to billions of shekels. Despite this, our government did not put the destruction of Hamas on the agenda until 10/07/23.

On Black Shabbat on October 7, everything changed, after a massive shelling of the south of the country and the invasion of a large Hamas gang into Israeli territory, the brutal murders of civilians (1,400 people, more than 79 percent are women, children and old people), as well as the unprecedented capture of prisoners (230 people, among them 35 children, the youngest 8 months.

Among the elderly, the oldest is 93 years old.

Having barely recovered from the shock of the sudden invasion, an emergency government was created in Israel, and it made decision  to overthrow Hamas. Note: Israel supplies the Gaza Strip with free electricity, water, gas and fuel.

Billions of dollars donated to charities have been used against Israel.

I appeal to all residents of Israel, Jews and Arabs, our fellow citizens, with a call to unite in the fight against  terror regime , against Hamas.

Goodnight,

Ella
