The Israeli government has approved a plan to occupy the Gaza Strip. Details of the plan are being released.
Israel approved plans Monday to capture the entire Gaza Strip and remain in the Palestinian territory for an unspecified amount of time, two Israeli officials said, a move that, if implemented, would vastly expand Israel’s operations in Gaza and likely bring fierce international opposition, reported AP.
Israeli Cabinet ministers approved the plan in an early morning vote, hours after the Israeli military chief said the army was calling up tens of thousands of reserve soldiers.
The new plan, which the officials said was meant to help Israel achieve its war aims of defeating Hamas and freeing hostages held in Gaza, also calls for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to move to Gaza’s south — which would likely lead to their forcible displacement and exacerbate an already dire humanitarian crisis.
Israel’s Minister of Finance Smotrich declared, “We are going to finally occupy the Gaza Strip. We will stop being afraid of the word ‘occupation.’ There will be no withdrawal of forces from Gaza even in exchange for a hostage deal.”
American contractors Safe Reach Solutions and UG Solutions will use facial recognition tech to scan Palestinians in occupied Gaza. Gazans will be labeled for Israeli military and aid access will be tied to identity tags.
A senior security official said this evening — “The IDF is preparing to deliver a decisive blow to Hamas. The coming days represent their final opportunity to release the hostages and surrender. If they do not comply, the next step will be the complete defeat of Hamas, and this time, we will not stop.”
IDF announced sending tens of thousands of emergency call-up orders to reservists starting this evening – ahead of a significant expansion of ground maneuvers in the Gaza Strip, reported Israeli journalist Amir Tsarfati.
The Israeli cabinet unanimously approved the expansion of the operation in Gaza, and approved a basic outline for distributing aid in the future without it reaching Hamas.
The above area was prepared in recent days in southern Gaza Strip between Morag and Philadelphi corridors to be the depot for distribution of food before it gets to the hands of Hamas.
