Within 48 hours, Jerusalem is expected to make a critical decision: if Hamxs refuses to release the hostages, Israel may move to formally annex parts of Gaza.
Unlike military withdrawals, which can be executed at any time, annexation is a near-permanent step. Under Israeli law, reversing annexation isn’t simple, it requires either a supermajority of 80 Knesset members or a national referendum. In other words, once annexed, the land doesn’t come back without a political war.

Israel’s Minister of Finance Smotrich today declared, “Gaza is an integral part of Israel and settlement there is closer than ever before, and it is a realistic action plan.
“We did not make these great sacrifices to hand over Gaza from one Arab to another Arab.”
Local news is reporting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to the annexation plan of portions of the Gaza Strip in order to keep Gvir in the government, so Bibi can stay in power.
Local media reported the Trump administration has agreed to these plans. There has been no comment from The White House.
If the government collapsed, Netanyahu’s corruption trial would move forward.
Netanyahu will present to the ministerial committee a plan to annex areas in the Gaza Strip in an effort to keep Smotrich in the government, reported Haaretz.
Palestinian officials responded:
Israel has destroyed all aspects of life in Gaza. People in Gaza are deliberately dying of hunger and thirst. The people of Gaza are being deliberately killed by Israeli soldiers’ bullets.
Joint statement from Arab and Islamic countries:
– Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories.
– Unilateral annexation of the West Bank cannot change their legal status.
– Such actions will only escalate regional tensions, especially with ongoing aggression in Gaza.
Criticism of the continued war is expanding, primarily in Europe, but also in the U.S. Congress.
