Another day, another chance to read the Jerusalem Post with my morning tea only to open page 3 and see the almost half page ad with four familiar faces of women who are being celebrated as “The Wonderful Women in the World,” in honor of Women’s Day. They are Greta Thunberg, Angela Merkel, Kamala Harris and Michelle Obama. It is their faces which are intended to sell English-speaking women to sign up for a variety of Hebrew magazine and digital services offered by the Jerusalem Post.
My first thought was, “Who chose these four as the most inspiring, the most accomplished and the most celebrated women of the world?” My only conclusion is that the choice came from a “woke,” politically-correct but highly misinformed individual who has no idea who the readers of the Jerusalem Post are.
In general, it is said that Israel is a right-leaning country with conservative values even though it is the only country in the Middle-East which boasts a very tolerant policy and attitude towards gays, allowing for annual Gay Pride Parades both in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Yet, despite that tolerance, the country remains very traditional and respectful of time-tested values and family-oriented principles. They do not understand or accept “wokeism.” In fact, many Israelis have been shocked and amazed at the decidedly sharp left turn which America has taken in the last couple of years, embraced by the Biden regime which recently installed a new Supreme Court Justice who was unable to provide an answer to the question, “Who is a woman.” It is the same government which lauded the woke politics of one of their army generals who recommended that all military personnel read books on the topic of Critical Race Theory and be willing to admit that all whites are racists who have privilege above all others.
These are the new values of what was once believed to be the greatest country in the world, and these four women supposedly represent the best from among them.
Well, if these are the best of my sex, it’s a sad day for the future of humanity. Michelle Obama became famous for being married to the first black president of the U.S. Other than that, it’s hard to see what special accomplishment or accolades she has earned, short of being a law school graduate which many other women have become but who have not been catapulted to the top or enjoy the limelight as does she. Kamala Harris arrived at her position merely by being a female person of color (which is what Biden promised as his running mate). However, she has shown herself to be woefully incapable of public speaking, managing crises which were placed under her purview and knowing how to handle herself with seriousness and gravitas on world stages, rather than cackling her way through events. I’ll hand it to her though, she makes a nice appearance, but that certainly doesn’t qualify her to be named amongst “the wonderful women in the world.”
Then there’s Angela Merkel, the woman who fiercely believed that opening Germany’s doors to unvetted illegals from vastly different cultures with completely opposite viewpoints concerning crime, how women are treated, obeying everyday laws and societal norms, radically changed the face of her peaceful country in a few short years, where rape, theft and violence became commonplace in a country which was forced to take the direction she had singularly decided was humane.
Then there’s Greta Thunberg, the teenage Swedish activist who singlehandedly thought she should be the world’s conscience as it relates to climate change while she attempted to make impassioned, emotional pleas for new lifestyle choices in order to save coming generations. But what sounded noble was very much a collective condemnation against populations which are already committed to better environmental choices while the world’s largest polluters remain unscolded and unbothered.
Having become TIME’s 2019 Person of the Year, Thunberg became the darling of the globalist, woke, progressive movement which has used her as their spokesperson to inspire others of her generation to eschew life as it has been in the hope of adopting an entirely new way of life on a variety of levels including the foods we eat, what we drive, how we heat our homes and how often we travel. Of course, none of those same rules will apply to those of her stature whose privileges are never challenged.
So, there you have it – the four wonderful women hailed by the Jerusalem Post who are being touted as worth celebrating. Apparently conservative women are not worth celebrating or even viewed as inspiring, because not a one was found in this list. I thought diversification was supposed to be a hallmark of progressives. Perhaps not when it relates to politics!
Certainly, the likes of Kellyanne Conway, Molly Hemmingway, Laura Ingraham, Amy Coney Barrett, Nikki Haley, Alveda King, Mia Love, Candace Owens, Katie Pavlich, Allie Beth Stuckey, Sarah Sanders or so many other women who have broken the glass ceiling are not in the same league as these four “wonderful women.”
Is it not too much to suggest that when trying to win over other women to a particular cause or issue that the advertiser remember that women do not come in a one-size-fits all category? Women are as diverse as any other group – both in their thinking, their actions and their emotions. They embrace a variety of opinions, political leanings and overall sentiments which also need to be acknowledged and represented. Not to do so is to sell them short and actually disregard their voice. Consequently, it is offensive and undermines any attempt to attract them to whatever is being sold to them.
While this is common sense advice, it may be worth repeating. Whoever wants to attract all women should take into consideration that we are not robots, do not think alike and should be respected as a diversified, independent, unique block rather than a lockstep unit which lacks individuality and freedom of thought.Because women who think for themselves are, after all, truly the wonderful women of the world!
