The celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ has returned to Bethlehem in the West Bank since the new phase of the Gaza war started after the murders on October 7th, 2023.
The development comes as symbolic in nature but also due to economic necessity for the residents of the West Bank. Bethlehem is an important tourism draw which counts for 80% of the territory’s income.
Hotel occupancy is said to be approximately 70%, as opposed to almost zero during the war.
Church leaders in the West Bank see the return of Christmas celebrations as a message of peace and faith in Jesus Christ.
