Pianist Arthur Rubinstein once said…
“I’m involved in passion in life: I love the changes, the colors, the movement. Being alive, being able to see, walk, being a landlord, music, paintings – it’s all a wonder.”
The same is true of artist Shalev Mann’s current exhibition, at the Artists’ House in Haifa: he strives to follow the hum of his heart, his symphony.
Painting is an existential need, to express things in colors and shapes in places where words are scarce and unable to contain or describe.
All this in a universal language that touches on emotion -emotion which is beyond rational explanations. Mann paints in a mostly abstract universal language, with a variety of tools and techniques, on large canvases.
His sources of inspiration include: landscapes burned into his mind, music in all its shades, the emotional world and small moments of imagination and excitement. “I am in the mood for a game and experimenting on the canvas in the implementation and fulfillment of a musical arrangement. A slower and analytically correcting stage follows,” Mann says.
Mann’s art language ranges from abstract-expressive to abstract-lyrical style following the strong influence of Israeli painting at the beginning of his career. Yet his painting attempts to reflect a pulsating and ever-changing contemporary mindset.
The artist is true to his art and expresses the feelings of the heart and the subconscious in color, stain line and texture, in a universal language that is beyond words -the language of art.
Mann’s works are like the circles of life, the intoxication of colors of storm and calm, fireworks on the one hand and a calm safe beach on the other.
