Meanwhile, Israel has appointed Eli Sharvit as the new head of the country’s domestic intelligence agency, the Shin Bet, following the dismissal of his predecessor, Ronen Bar by the Netanyahu government.
Sharvit, a former naval commander, has served 36 years in the Israeli military and is the first Shin Bet chief from outside its service in 30 years.
Prime Minister’s Office:
After in-depth interviewing seven worthy candidates, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to appoint former Navy Commander, Major General (retd.), Eli Sharvit, as the next head of the Shin Bet.
Major General Sharvit served 36 years in the IDF, 5 of which as Commander of the Navy.
In this role, he led the construction of the maritime defense force in the economic waters and managed complex operational systems against Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran.
The Shin Bet is an organization with extensive rights, which underwent a severe shake-up on October 7th.
The Prime Minister is convinced that Major General Sharvit is the right person to lead the Shin Bet on a path that will continue the organization’s glorious tradition.
