Former advisor to Israeli President Shimon Peres, Jonathan Adiri, on Türkiye:

Türkiye no longer wants a seat at the Middle East table — it’s building the table itself.

Erdogan seeks to establish bases in the heart of Syria. If we fail to shape our northern front, a proxy war between Israel and Türkiye becomes a real threat — far more dangerous than Iran.

Türkiye is not Iran. It is not isolated in terms of economy or influence. It is a dynamic and rising regional power, with one foot in the West, holding leverage over the EU, and in tune with the East.

This isn’t a future projection — the Turkish Army is already a reality. As NATO’s second-largest army, they produce 70% of their equipment domestically and are now the world’s fourth-largest drone producer.

Türkiye’s biggest leverage isn’t military. The natural gas pipelines running through its territory make it the key to Europe’s energy security.

Israel must act decisively to prevent a future war with Türkiye.

There are two possible alliances:

1. A moderate Sunni bloc with Egypt, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia under White House mediation

2. The existing alliance with Greece and Cyprus.

But ultimately, we must identify shared interests with Türkiye and shift from confrontation to cooperation.

A NATO Threat Rising on Israel’s Border?

Syria and Turkey are negotiating a dangerous deal: transferring control of key territory near Palmyra—once a stronghold for Iranian-backed militias—in exchange for Turkish military and economic support.

Turkey is planning to establish an airbase in central Syria to host F-16 fighter jets. If the U.S. greenlights Turkey’s reentry into the F-35 program, the threat intensifies dramatically.

This would put a heavily armed NATO-member force, equipped with advanced U.S. technology, deep inside Syria—within striking distance of Israel.

Some are calling it a greater threat to Israel than even Iran.

This cannot be allowed to happen. There must be a proactive approach—not the usual reactive pattern Israel has fallen into.

If this isn’t addressed now, a direct military clash between Israel and Turkey is inevitable.

And the U.S. must wake up to reality: one of their own NATO allies is on a collision course with Israel.
