On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke at a meeting of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee and said that Israel “will not be bound” by any nuclear deal that may be reached between Washington and Tehran.
Netanyahu explained that Iran had replaced Arab nations as the primary threat to Israel and that now Iran is attempting to “wipe out” the Arabs.
“More than 90 percent of our security issues stem from Iran and her [proxies]. Our position is clear: Israel will not be bound by any deal with Iran and will continue to defend itself,” the Prime Minister added.
The Israeli leader’s comments come amid reports that the U.S. and Iran are working to hammer out an ‘interim deal’ regarding Tehran’s nuclear program. The potential deal would give Iran some relief from sanctions in exchange for reducing its uranium-enriching program.
While both the U.S. and Iran have denied that an interim agreement is being worked out, Washington held ‘proximity’ nuclear talks with Iran in Oman with Omani officials acting as mediators passing messages between the two countries, according to ZeroHedge.
Two days ago, Iranian leader Ali Khamenei said that he welcomed a nuclear deal with the West as long as Iran’s nuclear infrastructure is untouched.
“You may want to reach agreements in some fields. Nothing is wrong with [reaching] agreements, but the infrastructure must remain intact. It must not be harmed. These are the fruit of others’ endeavors,” Khamenei said.
He also added that government officials should also “understand” where to place their trust.
Talks of a nuclear deal resumed in 2022 after an EU-drafted proposal to reinstitute the 2015 nuclear agreement under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) that former president Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from in 2018. Shortly after talks began, however, they came to a halt after Israel pressured Washington not to go through with the agreement.

Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has recently closed several cases against Iran after determining that traces of near-weapons grade uranium in the country were residual and were not meant for use in creating a nuclear weapon. Regardless, Israel has continued to threaten war against Iran under the guise of self-defense and ensuring peace.
As for Israel, it has continued to ‘neither confirm nor deny’ the existence of its nuclear arsenal.
“We are working to stop Iran, and, on the other hand, we are making great efforts to expand the circle of peace. These things present us with great challenges, but also possibilities,” Netanyahu said during Tuesday’s meeting.
